so now that the tent pole is all fixed and taken care of, we are gearing up for a few more camping outings this summer... today, in preparation of these adventures, i created a little piece of important sleeping gear for margaret. her own patchy pillow. just like the ones i made for chuck and i for a summer road trip to maine six years ago. same size, same style, just a few years later...
these are the original two camping pillows, which have worked out really well — they are small enough to pack in the car without taking up too much room, they are big enough to be comfortable, we don't have to bring our bed pillows out into the woods, and they're patchy. having only two pillows for a family of three was ok for the first few years, but now a third one is needed for sure...
this morning i selected a bunch of fabrics and let margaret go through them. she sorted them and arranged them and chose ones for her pillow and ones for her doll's mini-pillow. this was a very exciting part of the process.
lots of mixing of patterns and colors. fabric everywhere. when the piles were sorted, i did a wee bit of editing and began to cut the squares... and then sewed and sewed until our pillowless camper had her very own creation to rest her head. zzzzzzzzz......
edited to add: the final pillow *stuffed* pillow size is about 25" x 12". these patches started out 5" square and i used about a 1/4" seam.
