the project: "kim's hat" found in this book, borrowed from the library last week. a warm wool hat for whomever's head it fits (being my first attempt at a knitted hat i'm not sure how right on i'll be with the size, but i am following the child's size for margaret, secretly hoping that it might turn out a little too large). while it is intended to be worn in the chillier weather, not really on a summer day, i'm hoping that this summer knitting project will sort of capture beach-like elements from this season (like the warmth and the natural palette) that hopefully will be carried over and remembered when worn in the wintertime — that is if i can really finish it up into a completed hat. i am pretty far along into the hat and i just hit a bit of a snag. the pattern's next step is to switch from the circular needles (which i just got the hang of) to five double sided needles. i really do not know how to go about this, so i'll need to search the internet for a somewhat comprehensible tutorial or head back to the library for some more knitting how-to books. i hope i can do it because i'd love to turn these little loops of wool into a winter wearable which captures the thoughts of salty air, warm sand, barefoot driftwood collecting, the sound of crashing waves...
