it's time for us to weigh anchor and start whipping up a few things for the pirate birthday party that is fast approaching. (with all the pirate research i've been doing lately, i've learned a few new phrases like weigh anchor!, meaning something like let's go!). by now i'm hoping that the invites, which were silkscreened with a sort-of-logo of margaret as a pirate, have been received by all the little scallywags, umm, i mean children. (when both of your parents are graphic designers your backyard birthday party comes with its own homemade logo). so now we need to tackle a few other projects that we have lined up. i've gathered a bunch of red, black and whitish fabric from my stash hoping that i could try to make use of what i have, so i will buy as little new fabric as possible. looks like i am in good shape...
luckily in the past year i have found 2 huge pieces of red material at the thrift stores, at the time not knowing what i'd use them for—now they might be good for pirate flags (in lieu of ballons) and loot bags? i finished up a few beanbags the other day that we will be using for games and merriment. there is also some old clothesline, rope and hemptwine that can probably be put to use i'm sure.
as far as food, i haven't thought much past a cake and picking up some pirate's cannon balls, and i should probably have a little more than that—any suggestions for pirate grub and how to serve it up?
arrrrrg. so where is me needle and thread? i've got some work to do!
