preparing for the season. there are many people, i hear, who begin to get ready for the winter season way back in summer. while it is still shorts and flip-flop weather, people are beginning to put on nat king cole, make gift lists, bake cookies to freeze, etc... i am not like that. no. or am i? i have found myself in the past couple of weeks thinking that summer is around the corner. really, it is a good six months until the summer solstice and warm breezes. the pine needles were barely swept up from the floor and i was already visiting the clearwater outdoor music festival website to see if they had posted a list of this year's performers. so imagine my delight when in my mailbox yesterday i found johnny's seed catalog. i am so excited. we spent a while flipping through it last night. chuck is excited for this years gardening too, however when he mentioned something about a cow and chickens i had to ask him to be a little less enthusiastic. (i think this town has some laws about farm pets?)
anyway, we decided to keep the same 3 favorites from last year...
• brandywine tomatoes.
• lipstick peppers.
• genovese basil.
then we hope to try some new things. everything looks so great. maybe...
• eclipse peas
• eva purple ball tomato
• red cross lettuce
and they had multiple pages of happy, sunny sunflowers. i am thinking about the wild variety maximillian perhaps? how much space do i have out there again?
i've been looking forward to ordering our 2007 seeds for a long time and i'm glad i can finally begin. sing in exaltation!
